Overview

The Central Library was started service in the 2009. It’s fosters intellectual growth and advances the mission of RVS TECHNICAL CAMPUS - COIMBATORE College and affiliated communities by supporting excellence and innovation in education and research, managing and delivering information, and partnering to develop and disseminate new users.

The library, overseen by a qualified librarian and a team of Library Information Professionals, is fully automated using KOHA, incorporating RFID technology, barcode technology, and self-issue/return kiosks. The technological highlights include the GSDL Digital Library and the Intranet Library Website.

Spanning 55,000 square feet, the Wi-Fi-enabled Central Library provides a centrally air-conditioned environment, fulfilling the information and knowledge needs of users with a vast collection. It boasts 82,141 books, numerous journals and magazines in both print and digital formats, 12,742 CDs/DVDs/VCDs, 4,666 back volumes, and rare resources like Palm Leaves of Tamil Literature, special books, and back volumes.

The library is meticulous in continuously expanding its resources across all disciplines. A significant portion of the collection comprises international authors’ reference books, with multiple copies of textbooks prescribed in the syllabus available for student circulation. Reference books are lent out through an Overnight Issues System, while the library also circulates journals/magazines and CDs/DVDs/VCDs.

In addition to textbooks and reference materials, the library offers valuable resources such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, thesauri, yearbooks, handbooks, standards, and manuscripts. Well-utilized by both faculty members and students, the library accommodates around 1000 users daily.

Acquisitions are made based on faculty and student recommendations through recommendation forms. As a member of the Indian Access Management Federation (INFED) of INFLIBNET, an autonomous Inter University Centre of UGC, the library disseminates e-resources, including Science Direct Journals, Science Direct E-Books, Scopus Citation Database, Proquest ABI/INFORM Collection, and DELNET database, to students, faculty members, and researchers on and off the campus through the Shibboleth software for remote access.

P.Renganayaki

Bsc., BEd., M.LIS., M.Phil
Library
P. Renganayaki is a highly qualified and dedicated librarian at RVS Technical Campus in Coimbatore. Holding a B.Sc., B.Ed., M.LIS (Master of Library and Information Science), and an M.Phil, she brings a wealth of academic expertise to her role. With her extensive background in education and library science, she plays a vital part in fostering intellectual growth at the institution. Her commitment to managing and delivering information resources supports the campus's mission of excellence in education and research, making her an invaluable asset to the RVS community.
He had completed his Undergraduate B.Sc- Agriculture from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) in the year 2004 and Postgraduate M.ScAgriculture (Agricultural microbiology) from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) in the year 2006.He had completed his PhD from TNAU in the year 2010. He has a total experience of more than 12 years in both teaching and research. He had published 7 international and 9 national research papers in ICARNAAS rated Journals with good impact factor. He had published more than 11 books in the field of Bio-energy, Environment Engineering and Agricultural Microbiology. Apart from research articles he has published more than 30 popular articles in magazines, Newspapers etc.

Objectives

Duration of Loan
Books are issued for a period of 15 days for students and 30 days for faculty members. A book may be renewed for a further period of 15 days. On special grounds, reference books and current periodicals are issued on an overnight basis.
Overdue Charge
If the book is not return within 14days from the date of issue, an overdue charge of Rs.2 per day, per book will be levied.

Book Section

This Book Section contains a collection of 19029 books. Users can locate the required book in the stock section.
Circulation Section
All the students and staff are provided with bar code stickers affixed on their identity card. Circulation service (issue, return and renewal) are fully computerized with bar code facility. MODERNLIB software is used for this purpose. An open access system is followed and users can avail the books from the book section.
Periodical Section
This section contains 85 Nationals, 65 International Journal, 34 Magazines, 13 News Papers and details. IEEE Online Journals and ELSEIVER (SCIENCEDIRECT) and DELNET,K-Hub Online Journals are also available.
Reference Section
This section contains reference books, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and exam guides, standards, project reports, and manuals, handbooks, high priced books and collection of university question papers for reference purpose. These materials are issued an overnight basis with the Principal’s recommendation.
New Arrivals Section
In the New Arrivals section, one copy of the new title or new edition is displayed for one month for attracting the students and staff members for using the library effectively and at the same time updating their.

Rules And Regulations

  • The Students are eligible to borrow only 3 books at a time from the library. They shall keep the books for a maximum of 15 days.
  • The staff is eligible to borrow only 4 books at a time form the library. They shell keep the books for maximum of 30 days. (Renewal allowed full semester, a staff can retain a book for a maximum period of 6 months only even after renewal).
  • Renewal of book for a student allowed.
  • Before entering the library the students will have to leave their personal belonging at the personal property shelf.
  • The library users (staff/students) should sign gate register before entering the library and after using the library.
  • Staff/Students should produce their identity cards while getting the books issued from the library.
  • No books shall be taken out unless it is entered in the issue section (register) Reference books must be consulted in the library itself. It should not be taken out of the library.
  • Books should be returned on or before the due date mentioned in the book. Failure will result in the leave of fine Rs.2 per day per book.
  • Students should take proper care to maintain the library books intact without causing any damages. If a student happens to lose any book, he /she should replace the book or he/she should pay an amount equal to 2 times of the cost of the book plus fine for the numbers of days taken to replace the book.
  • All library users may obtain the books from the reference shelves with the guidance of librarian.
  • The borrower will be held responsible for any damage to the other properties belonging to the library.
  • Folding and tearing of the pages, underlining, clipping or annotating of the book is absolutely forbidden.
  • Loud consultations, animated conversations, Mobile using etc, is strictly prohibited.
  • Resource may be give extra to same students up on decent requirements with the permission of high command.
