Science & Humanities

Overview

The department was started in the year 2009 and it has grown excellently in academic and research work. The S&H department of RVS Technical Campus has a rare blend of very dynamic, energetic and well qualified staff members. The Science & Humanities involves English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry departments. The department aims to provide strong fundamentals in Science and Humanities through high quality teaching supplemented with practical training for under graduate courses. It caters to the needs of B.E. students in strengthening their knowledge of basic science & humanities and to strengthen itself by integrating with the engineering departments for a productive knowledge base.

Outline About Department

  • It is said that Mathematics is the queen of all sciences. Mathematics is the language of science and engineering that describes our understanding of all that we observe. The application of maths and mathematical knowledge and concepts are found everywhere, in almost every facet of life in nature all around us and in the technologies in our hands.
  • Physics is one of the oldest disciplines of natural science that deals with understanding the nature of matter and its motion through space and time. The laws of physics explain right from the evolution of cells to the creation of the Universe.
  • Chemistry is one of the fundamental branches of science that are committed to the study of the nature, properties, composition and interaction of matter.
  • English has been an essential part of the engineering curriculum. It serves as a bridge between the student’s many years of school education before joining engineering courses and their professional life that requires them to use English in their day-to-day communication.
  • Well experienced Faculty members most of whom are qualified postgraduates and with three Doctorates, the department has been able to contribute much in developing and moulding the students so as to enhance their knowledge to understand the basic subjects for better exposure.
  • The Faculty members are actively engaged in teaching, research and all other co- academic activities for the betterment and well being of the students. The department also provides the theoretical and laboratory courses of engineering undergraduates (B.E).
  • Another accomplishment that our department is proud to attain is the Research Department in Mathematics sanctioned by Anna University. Ample opportunities are provided to our faculty members those who are pursuing Ph.D. in different fields.
  • In addition, students are also exposed to various activities like NSS, NCC, Rotary club and physical education to enable them to face life with confidence and societal responsibilities. The department holds the responsibility in making student– teacher and parent–teacher interaction possible.

LANGUAGE LABORATORY

To develop the basic reading and writing skills of first year engineering and technology students. To help learners develop their listening skills, which will, enable them listen to lectures and comprehend them by asking questions, seeking clarifications. To help learners develop their speaking skills and speak fluently in real contexts. To help learners develop vocabulary of a general kind by developing their reading skills.

To be provide learners a sustainable access to self – instructional, multimedia, language learning software as a complementary to classroom teaching. Our aims to introduce learners, the sound of English, their symbol, word stress and intonation. It attempts to neutralize learner’s accent by drawing their attention to common errors made by speakers of Indian language with respect to sounds in English that are not found in their mother tongue.
