Overview

The Civil Engineering Department, established with the institute in 2009, has dedicated itself to improve quality education, academic excellence and to develop both community oriented and industry based research. The Civil Engineering Department produce graduate engineers to plan, design, develop, build, manage and rehabilitate any type of structure. The department also strives to undertake a program in community service and to disseminate advanced technical knowledge to Engineers, other professionals and the public.

The Department of Civil Engineering ensures that the Students have the opportunity to work with latest equipments like Universal Testing machine, Compressive Testing Machine, NDT equipments, B. O. D. Incubators, Total Station etc. The department has a team of dedicated faculty members specialized in various areas such as Structural Engineering, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management. The Department offers B.E. Civil Engineering, M.E. Structural Engineering, and M.E. Construction Engineering & Management Programmes.

Dr.A.Kumar

M.E.,Ph.D,
Head of the Department
RVS Technical Campus-Coimbatore. He has completed his Undergraduate in BE Civil Engineering at PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore and his Postgraduate in ME Environmental Engineering from Government College of Technology, Coimbatore. He has completed his PhD from Karpagam Academy of Higher Education. He has a total experience of 32 years in both Teaching and Research. He has also completed his M.sc in Counselling and Psychotherapy and also Diploma in student counselling. He has published 22 International journals and also published 4 patents. He has achieved a number of 15 University Rank holders under his guidance and he has also received Teaching Awards in Engineering –Staffordshire University, UK & Education Matters. He has delivered 18 Guest Lectures. He is a Life time member of Indian Society for Technical Education( ISTE).
He had completed his Undergraduate B.Sc- Agriculture from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) in the year 2004 and Postgraduate M.ScAgriculture (Agricultural microbiology) from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) in the year 2006.He had completed his PhD from TNAU in the year 2010. He has a total experience of more than 12 years in both teaching and research. He had published 7 international and 9 national research papers in ICARNAAS rated Journals with good impact factor. He had published more than 11 books in the field of Bio-energy, Environment Engineering and Agricultural Microbiology. Apart from research articles he has published more than 30 popular articles in magazines, Newspapers etc.

The mission of the Advisory Board is to assist the Civil Engineering Program achieve its academic mission.The Board provides an effective linkage between the Department and its alumni, current students, faculty, the University, industry and government.   2. Become consultants on complex real life Civil Engineering problems related to Infrastructure development especially housing, construction, water supply, sewerage, transport, spatial planning.

  3. Become entrepreneurs and develop processes and technologies to meet desired infrastructure needs of society and formulate solutions that are technically sound, economically feasible, and socially acceptable.

  4. Perform investigation for solving Civil Engineering problems by conducting research using modern equipment and software tools.

  5. Function in multi-disciplinary teams and advocate policies, systems, processes and equipment to support civil engineering.

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems. 

  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of Mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences. 

  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations. 

  4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions. 

  5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations. 

  6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

  7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.  

  8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.  

  9. Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
